Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to let you know that we have been informed today that UTC Heathrow will be inspected by OFSTED tomorrow on Tuesday 7th February and Wednesday 8th February 2023. We were aware that we would be inspected at any point from September 1st 2020 – which is two years exactly after UTC Heathrow joined the Activate Learning Education Trust. Covid-19 has of course delayed this. Attached to this letter is the notification letter for parents from Ofsted for your information. But this has a very short turnaround with parents asked to complete it by noon tomorrow. When we have invited parents to complete our own surveys during the year the outcomes have been very positive. I would therefore ask and encourage you to take a few minutes to complete this survey to share your views of UTC Heathrow.
The process of the visit has been explained to students today, so there will be surprises tomorrow. We are very well prepared as a UTC and during the school day tomorrow it will be ‘business as usual’ but I would ask for your support should we be unable to respond immediately to any queries. As a whole community, we have risen to the challenge of rebuilding the reputation of UTC Heathrow, through focusing on putting in place solid foundations relating to Teaching and Learning, Relationships & Behaviours, Employer Engagement and Aspirations. The community support of UTC Heathrow has been immense since I took over as Principal in September 2018; we have without doubt made great strides, amidst the painful financial cuts that were necessary for the UTC to survive and then Covid, in order to now thrive. So whilst we are still growing through a change process, I very much hope, for the UTC community that in their conclusions, OFSTED recognise the progress that we have made, and will continue to make.
