Year 12 & 13 study

Welcome to UTC Heathrow’s Sixth Form

In our Sixth Form, we help students develop independence and freedom, supporting and challenging them to learn in a way that prepares them for the world of work. We offer a varied STEM focused curriculum that allows students to combine A levels with BTECs in a small learning environment where they are really known by their teachers.

Our Sixth Formers enjoy a hybrid learning approach, a brand new basketball court and pastoral support tailored just for them, encouraging them to grow and develop into young adults, ready for the next step.

But that’s not all.  Unique to UTC Heathrow’s Sixth Form is:

SPECIALISED AND VARIED CURRICULUM

We offer a choice of A levels and BTECs in a wide variety of subjects including a Level 3 extended diploma in Engineering, unique locally

WORLD-CLASS EMPLOYER CONNECTIONS

We partner with some big names in the data infrastructure industry to offer a unique, multi award winning programme of face to face learning, project days and work placements

GENUINE PREPARATION FOR WORK
Industry standard equipment and a curriculum carefully designed with key employers to make learning as relevant and transferable to the world of work as possible

What can you actually study here?

Our Sixth form curriculum, like the Year 10 and Year 11 curriculum, is very focused on our specialisms of digital and engineering, and the other STEM subjects.  In our Sixth Form, you pick one of four pathways of study; the engineering or IT specialism pathway, the IT Hybrid pathway, the Engineering Hybrid pathway or the A Level pathway.

  • In the engineering or IT specialism pathway, you will pick between the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering or the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in IT.  Both of these are equivalent to 3 A Levels.
  • In the IT hybrid pathway, you can choose either the AAQ Level 3 in IT alongside A Levels, or the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in IT alongside an A Level.
  • In the Engineering Hybrid pathway, you can choose either the AAQ Level 3 in Engineering alongside A Levels, or the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering alongside an A Level.
  • In the A Level route you can choose up to three A Levels from the available subjects we offer as shown below.

Entry requirements

All our courses require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including at least a grade 5 in maths.  To study at A Level, a grade 6 or above is needed in the chosen subject.
