Professional Qualifications

Professional Qualifications

We are incredibly proud to offer all of our students the opportunity to complete industry standard professional qualifications alongside their programme of study. These are funded by the UTC which means they are free to students. These are highly valuable, globally recognised qualifications that will set you apart from the rest as you build your portfolio of skills and knowledge. Whilst it would be easy to assume that the professional qualifications are targeted for those interested in careers in the computing industry, they are for everyone whatever your chosen subject is and are attractive to all employers, whatever the industry.

Our expectation is that all students achieve a minimum number over their time with us, but we have found that students love to work on these and achieve them. It is not uncommon for students to achieving 10 qualifications per year.

You can see a list of the professional qualifications we offer below.

  • Microsoft Office Specialist

Wisam Sherwi, former UTC Reading student, is studying a four-year degree course in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oxford, his first choice.

During his time with us, talented Wisam has enjoyed success at the MOS PowerPoint UK and Ireland Championship, was ranked in the top 10 per cent of students nationally in the Senior Maths challenge, and in the top 14 percent in the British Physics Olympiad.

“I joined UTC Reading (in Year 12) because the professional environment of UTCs appealed to me and I found that UTC Reading is one of the best. They helped me prepare for my future with vast opportunities and extra-curricular activities, such as work experience and professional qualifications.”
