Sakina Ladak is thriving in a Digital and Technical Solutions degree apprenticeship with Airbus, following excellent results in her IT BTEC gained last summer at UTC Heathrow.
Sakina wanted ‘something more challenging than straight university’. Like many students she’s moved out of home, to Broughton in Wales. She is studying one day a week at University Central Western, and she says the combination of moving out and working has made her ‘grow as person’: “I’m definitely more grown up. My parents noticed it straight away.”
A typical day for her sees her working across cyber security, project management and architecture and she says: “the early careers support here is excellent – they really help with your career goals,” (Sakina wants to specialise in cyber security).
Her tips for anyone who does land an interview for an apprenticeship are to “make sure you know all about the company and what’s will be expected of you. Make bullet points of the things you want the interviewer to know and practise with your family first. Have confidence and believe in yourself, even if you don’t feel that confident.”
